Swift Current Navy League Cadets is open to youth 9-12 years of age.
This program offers an opportunity for the cadets to meet new friends and have lots of fun through a variety of activities! Some activities included but not limited to are: air rifle safety and marksmanship, rope work, naval terminology, swimming, games, recreational activities, sailing, seamanship, weekend trips and an annual summer camp. We also participate in other community events such as the Legion Poppy Campaign, Remembrance Day services and much more.
Our goals are to teach and model citizenship, self respect, and respect for others. These qualities are incorporated in most aspects of the program.
Navy League Cadet Corps #128 Prairie Schooner meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm to 9:00pm, September to May at Lt. Colonel Clifton Centre ( formerly the Rec. Centre). Navy League Cadets are youth aged nine to twelve years of age. You may join at any time throughout the training year as long as you have reached the minimum age of 9.
Cadets are encouraged to become active, responsible members of their communities. They learn valuable life and work skills like teamwork, leadership, and citizenship. Cadets also reap the personal benefits of increased self-confidence, the value of taking the initiative, and how to make decisions. Cadets make valuable contributions to Canadian society on a daily basis in terms of citizenship and community activities.
Our program is designed to educate and train Canadian youth in respect, self-discipline, and citizenship within a naval structure. The objectives of our program include both physical and mental training, and we try to make most activities "learn by doing". While not simple or easy, any cadet may be successful if they attend and apply themselves. Our program is structured, but is not just an extension of the school day. Our governing body is The Navy League of Canada, which is a registered charitable organization and has been in existence for over 100 years
